Salut ! Guaka 16:48, 11 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I ni sokoma Guaka !
Question : Pour quel ONG travailles-tu à Bamako (suppositions).
Ka an bé !
Yannick

Et, eh, petite question, i be Bamakola?

Hello Guaka, you are now an administrator. There are instructions on how to use your administrator powers in the administrators' how-to guide on the English Wikipedia. If you have any problems, let me know on my talk page, or leave a note on meta:Requests for permissions. Good luck. Angela 5 mar 2005 à 11:54 (UTC)

L'ecriture NKo[modifier le wikicode]

Hello Guaka,

I am wondering if your plans for this Wikipedia give a fair treatment to the NKo script.

I don't think it's /official/, but as far as I know it is used by many Bamana people, and it was just added to Unicode (I'm planning to make a font for it soon).

I think it's important to include the element of existing native literacy in considerations of aiding in the deployment of technology.

Node ue 22 avr 2005 à 20:07 (UTC)

Hi, I would like to. Would it be possible to have one database with two possible ways to show, or is that too complicated? Otherwise we could set up bm-nko.wikipedia.org or something like that.
It's not official indeed, but I've met some -older- people who were more at ease with N'Ko.
It's also important to get started somewhere. :) Guaka 22 avr 2005 à 21:10 (UTC)
It depends on whether or not there is a regular correspondence between N'Ko and the Roman-Bambara script. If there is we should be able to engineer such a system easily. However it will cause problems with using directly French words such as "sociologie". --Node ue 23 avr 2005 à 06:47 (UTC)
The N'Ko movement writes in a standardiwed Manding language uniting elements of all four Manding dialects (Bambara, Dyula, Malinke, Mandinka), so it would require separate treatment. But on a different subject - you asked me about Dogon dictionaries? Well, I found a short one by DNAFLA at a roadside book stall on Av. de la Nation the other day. It's mine now ;) but try asking around the stalls - it does exist...

Ah claro! Gracias por su intervencion :) Guaka 11 mai 2005 à 10:26 (UTC)

Hi Guaka,

I thought that ô was supposed to be ɔ, etc?

Yes, but the ɔ is hard to find on most keyboards. And actually, I think that it is less important to have correct orthography in the beginning. I'll gradually try to correct the articles in the process of learning Bambara and adding words to Wiktionary. I think it's more important to actually get some text in the pedia, as long as it's understandable by people who speak Bambara and can read a bit. Most people hardly ever read Bambara, and primary education in Bambara has only started several years ago... Guaka 29 mai 2005 à 23:33 (UTC)

Bonsoir Guaka.

Hi Guaka and thanks for your welcome. I doubt I will be able to contribute much here but I felt I should do something, even if it was only adding interwiki links. I'm impressed with your work and the way you have managed to get people to write good articles about e.g. Sikaso. It's possible that this may become the first African language Wikipedia to reach 100 articles after Afrikaans (although Swahili is slightly ahead). I don't know how to use the pywikipediabot but actually I was just looking into learning how the other day, so maybe one day. I would be happy to do manual corrections for non-ASCII characters if I knew where they needed changing. Thanks for all your work here and good luck with this and ff and anything else you are doing. Trilobite 18 jun 2005 à 22:40 (UTC)

Hi! Afrikaans is not a real African language :) and it's probably possible to reach a 100 articles before Wikimania :) However, I think Swahili is better off in the sense that there are probably more active users who actually speak the language. But, if my proposal to Anthere (to connect the folks to the internet who are actually writing articles like Sikaso) will be realized there will be an active group of Bambara speakers online, working on this Wikipedia. And when that happens it is good to have some experienced Wikipedians around to play for concierge... Guaka 18 jun 2005 à 23:42 (UTC)
I understand about Afrikaans, which is why I think that this or the Swahili wiki reaching 100 will be a significant moment in Wikipedia history, and not a second best to Afrikaans's 4000 or so. If the Wikimedia Foundation has money to spare to support the Bamabara Wikipedia community's connection to the internet I would be highly supportive. I've been following the discussion now and then on the mailing list, and I think it's time for me to do some more reading up. By the way, for the orthography, is it the case that ô should always be changed to ɔ, and è should always be changed to ɛ? If so, I will make sure I change them whenever I come across them. Trilobite 19 jun 2005 à 00:15 (UTC)
I'll try to figure out at least one of the articles I'm working on (Utilisateur:Mohamed/15 juin 2005 and Utilisateur:Musa Fufana/15 juin 2005) so we'll be at 60 today. :) And, Frederic will probably send me a lot of new articles next week... Yes, most of the time ô is supposed to be ɔ and è is to be ɛ. But it can happen that the official orthography is either different from the pronunciation (for example "cogo" (pronunciation) vs. "coko" (official), meaning "how") or that people don't really know how to write the word at all. "Honrôya" versus the official "hɔrɔnya". Often the nasalised "on" is replaced with ɔ or vice versa... Guaka 19 jun 2005 à 00:51 (UTC)
Oh, and there's also tonal stuff that can be marked using `. I've done that in some places. And it's probably good to get it done everywhere in the future. A N'Ko version will be easy to make when tones are marked consistently... Guaka 19 jun 2005 à 01:10 (UTC)

Hi Guaka, please update me re: your Wikimania presentation. Are you bringing materials that could be used for a standalone presentation, mounted on a table? If not, we need an updated outline of your presrentation to work with. You can mail something to me at meta.sj --at-- gmail, or better yet, update your page directly at wikibooks.

Hi. Please excuse my lack of either French or Bambara/Bamanankan. The Bambara Wikibooks is up for closure -- there's been no activity (other than a lot of spam) since some contributions you made a long time ago. You're invited to join the discussion on meta if you have an opinion one way or the other about this.

Two other Bambara projects are also proposed for closure:

Hi Guaka. I have added some messages from bm.wikipedia to Betawiki. In Betawiki we facilitate translating interface messages for MediaWiki in an easy way: translators translate, we take care of the technical stuff to get it into MediaWiki. Please feel free to create an account there and put Bamanankan further on the digital map. Cheers! Siebrand 15 novembre 2007 à 19:05 (UTC)

Great, thanks. Maybe I'll get to it at some point :) Guaka 13 avril 2008 à 09:10 (UTC)

Your administrator status on the bm.wikipedia[modifier le wikicode]

Hello. A policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, etc.) was adopted by community consensus in 2013. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing activity on wikis with no inactivity policy.

You meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no log actions for 2 years) on the wiki listed above. Since that wiki does not have its own rights review process, the global one applies.

If you want to keep your rights, you should inform the community of the wiki about the fact that the stewards have sent you this information about your inactivity. If the community has a discussion about it and then wants you to keep your rights, please contact the stewards at m:Stewards' noticeboard, and link to the discussion of the local community, where they express their wish to continue to maintain the rights.

If you wish to resign your rights, you can reply here or request removal of your rights on Meta.

If there is no response at all after approximately one month, stewards will proceed to remove your administrator and/or bureaucrat rights. In ambiguous cases, stewards will evaluate the responses and will refer a decision back to the local community for their comment and review. If you have any questions, please contact the stewards.
